Under the guidance of X Factor supremo Simon Cowell, some 21 acts united to record the single, including Leona Lewis, Susan Boyle and Kylie Minogue. The moving ballad will hit the shops on Monday 8th February, 2010, with those behind it hoping it will top the charts and provide much-needed funds in the process.
 

Originally a hit in 1993, the song has been reworked with vocalists including X Factor winner Joe McElderry, Rod Stewart and JLS. The recording also reunites Robbie Williams with his former Take That bandmates Gary Barlow and Mark Owen. It was recorded in London and Los Angeles and got its first airplay on Tuesday. REM are waiving royalty rights to the charity track, while the Government has said that there will be no VAT cut. Proceeds will be split between the Disasters Emergency Committee and The Sun’s Helping Haiti campaign. Up to 200,000 people are believed to have died as a result of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake on January 12, with hundreds of thousands more left injured and homeless.

On the foot steps of U.S. remaking of  ”We Are the World” byAmerican megastars,  Susan alongwith Mariah Carey also recorded a charity single in a bid to bring relief to Haiti. They remix R.E.M.’s “Everybody Hurts” and it is suggested that the recording session has been completed in a London studio on Saturday, January 30 night. Leona Lewis reportedly opens the track with her vocal, while the chorus has Kylie Minogue teaming up with Robbie Williams. The other Take That stars Gary Barlow and Mark Owen also contribute on separate lines along with Westlife’s Shane Filan and Mark Feehily.

The song is expected to be released Monday, February 8 with all royalty payments from the song have been scrapped by R.E.M. Proceeds will benefit The Sun’s Helping Haiti and the Disasters Emergency Committee. Simon Cowell and Steve Robson are the masterminds behind the upcoming single.
