Susan Boyle’s new album already set for Christmas number 1

Susan Boyle’s second album is being tipped for this year’s Christmas Number 1 – before she’s even recorded it. Amazon has been besieged with more than two million requests in two weeks for the sequel to I Dreamed A Dream. SuBo’s second album is set to become the biggest CD pre-order in the online retailer’s history.

An industry source said: “We haven’t seen this before. It’s seven months ahead of the release and already people are putting in requests for pre-sales. It’s an incredible achievement already.” The 49-year-old singing sensation will begin recording the album in two weeks. Susan said: “I’m hoping to make it better and a bit extra special.” Frenzied interest has forced Amazon to set up a special page to enable fans to request copies in advance.

A spokesman said: “We are certain it will make the Xmas No 1 spot. It’s not often you can say that in April.”

Forget Susan Boyle, there’s more money in set-top boxes

Simon Cowell may be the media darling, but it is the owner of Top Up TV and one of the founders of Pace that have the greater fortunes, according to the latest Sunday Times Rich List.

At 15 in the chart, the highest placed media figure is Leonard Blavatnik, the industrialist who also attempted to save the GB business of Setanta Sports before its collapse last June. A new entry in the list, Blavatnik, is reputed to be worth £3,000 million (€3,481m). He also has stakes in Russian oil operations and investments in the aluminum and chemical industries.

The chairwoman of Kinnevik, Cristina Stenbeck, is placed joint 279th with £234m, benefitting from a rise of £36m. Though no longer directly including Modern Times Group, the Metro newspapers (outside of London) and Telecom operator Tele2 remain key elements of the portfolio.

Pace founder David Hood has added another £40m to his £220m fortune. Hood’s remaining stake in Pace is now worth £67m following a 52% rise in sales at the digital technology firm. At 255 in the list, Hood is significantly ahead of his former Pace partner Barry Rubery, joint 574th with £95m.

Essex-born TV producer Mark Burnett and his wife, the actress Roma Downey, hold £235m. Elisabeth Murdoch and her PR husband Matthew Freud are said to be worth £190m, a rise of £42m, have benefitted from a £14.3m profit at Ms Murdoch’s production company shine that makes popular shows including Masterchef. Simon Cowell (£165m), the man behind Susan Boyle, X-Factor, and Britain’s Got Talent has in the last two years earned £86m from his TV work, but also has a growing property portfolio.

Vatican invite Susan to sing for Pope

Susan has been chosen to sing for the Pope during his visit to Scotland later this year. Catholic Church leaders asked the Britain’s Got Talent star to perform in front of the 150,000 crowd expected to greet the Pontiff at an outdoor mass. She will sing before the papal address and may also perform during the mass in Glasgow’s Bellahouston Park. A senior church source said: “Susan has agreed to sing and everyone is delighted. It is a done deal.

Susan Boyle returns to Edinburgh to Dream a Dream

Susan Boyle enjoyed a night out with the girls in the Scottish capital on Thursday night as she watched the classic musical Les Miserables at the Edinburgh Playhouse.

Sitting through the iconic song I Dreamed a Dream, from which her worldwide renowned Britain’s Got Talent performance was inspired from one year ago, the 49-year-old is said to have mingled quite gracefully with fellow audience members after the show.

Two SuBo fanatics Louise and Colette Bradley from Barrhead, Glasgow were one of the lucky ones to spot the star and jumped at the chance to meet their idol. Ecstatic fan Louise said: “I am a massive fan, I adore her. There were a lot of people who noticed Susan but we just held back and brass-necked it so we could meet her.

“She was really nice and friendly.”

Susan, who was said to be in a rush, was more than happy to stop for a quick photo with the two girls although the star did admit she was supposed to be keeping a low profile at the moment. The unlikely superstar hit the headlines earlier this week after announcing she would be releasing an autobiography to inspire others to continue dreaming their dream. She is also busy working on her forthcoming second album, which could feature original songs written especially for the Blackburn spinster.
